[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will hold an online digital government cooperation seminar on the 23rd with the Digital Strategy Development Department of the Hesse State Government in Germany.

On the 22nd, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that the seminar is being held following a request from the Hesse State Government to the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Frankfurt to share digital government experiences. Hesse is a region where about 80% of Korean companies operating in Germany are located, serving as a key gateway for Korean companies entering Europe.

In this seminar, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, together with the Korea Intelligent Information Society Agency, will introduce the development process and recent trends of Korea's digital government and share cases of artificial intelligence utilization in the public sector.

The Digital Strategy Development Department of the Hesse State Government will introduce the current status of the introduction of electronic application procedures for administrative services they are currently promoting. Recently, Germany has been expanding telecommuting and remote classes to respond to COVID-19, striving to expand digital infrastructure, and interest in digital government is increasing.

Additionally, both sides will explore the direction digital government should take in the post-COVID-19 era and discuss ways to continue cooperation in the future.

Jung Seon-yong, Director of Digital Government, explained, "We hope this seminar will serve as an opportunity to expand exchanges in the field of digital government with Germany and further promote cooperation such as experience sharing with other European Union (EU) countries."
