[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Pyeongtaek Fire Station in Gyeonggi-do won the grand prize at the 'Drone' (unmanned aerial vehicle) competition, which is gaining importance in recent disaster rescue activities.
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 19th that Pyeongtaek Fire Station won the grand prize at the '2021 Gyeonggi-do Fire Drone Competition' held on the 16th at the Gyeonggi-do Fire School in Yongin. The competition featured 10 teams (20 people) from 9 stations, including the Headquarters' Special Response Teams (South and North).
The award-winning teams in this competition were ▲ Grand Prize: Pyeongtaek Fire Station (Pilot Fire Sergeant Jang Hyuk-jae, Co-pilot Fire Sergeant Kim Yong-hyun) ▲ Excellence Award: Northern Special Response Team (Fire Sergeant Cheon Su-bin, Fire Sergeant An Ju-min) ▲ Encouragement Award: Suwon Southern Fire Station (Firefighter Yoon Jae-yeol, Fire Lieutenant Lee Seon-hyung).
Pyeongtaek Fire Station will represent Gyeonggi-do at the '1st National Fire Chief's Cup Drone Competition' to be held next month at the Central Fire School in Gongju, Chungnam.
An Gi-seung, Head of Rescue and Emergency Medical Services at Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, emphasized, "As the role of drones is gradually increasing in various fire service fields, we plan to actively utilize drones at various disaster sites," adding, "We will strengthen a scientific disaster response system using 4th industrial revolution technologies."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters owns 20 drones across 13 stations in the province and plans to introduce 10 more within this year.
