[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongnam Province announced on the 18th that 23 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported in the province after 5 p.m. on the 17th.


By region, there were 9 cases in Changwon, 6 in Gimhae, 3 in Geoje, 2 in Yangsan, and 1 each in Sacheon, Haman, and Goseong.


Except for one confirmed case in Gimhae who is a foreigner entering from overseas, all cases are locally transmitted infections.


Among the total confirmed cases, 8 had contact with confirmed patients within the province, including family and acquaintances.


Six were infected through contact with confirmed patients from other regions such as Gyeonggi Province and Busan.


One of the confirmed cases in Changwon tested positive while in quarantine related to a Geoje company and religious facility. The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Geoje company and religious facility has increased to 42.


The confirmed case in Haman tested positive while in quarantine related to a local manufacturing company II. The cumulative number of confirmed cases related to the Haman manufacturing company II is 15.


The infection routes of the remaining 6 cases are under investigation.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases in the province has risen to 10,821 (424 hospitalized, 10,364 discharged, 33 deceased).


Meanwhile, the quarantine authorities announced that the first dose COVID-19 vaccination rate in the province exceeded 2.33 million people as of 6 p.m. the previous day, reaching 70.4% of the population.


This is 204 days since the start of COVID-19 vaccinations on February 26.


The number of residents who completed the second dose exceeded 1.42 million, accounting for 42.8% of the population.


Gyeongnam Province achieved a 70% first dose vaccination rate thanks to the active participation of residents and the efforts of vaccination staff, but as large-scale population movement is expected during the Chuseok holiday, they urged everyone to strictly follow quarantine rules regardless of vaccination status.
