[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Junhyung] It has been revealed that over 40,000 people participated in the global startup festival "Try Everything 2021," hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and others. The startups participating in the event attracted investment funds totaling 44.3 billion KRW.
According to Seoul Startup Hub on the 18th, a total of 41,272 people participated in Try Everything, which was held both online and offline over three days from the 15th to the 17th. Additionally, about 500 startups from 15 countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada held meet-ups with VCs and others. Furthermore, officials from embassies of six countries attended to share startup-related information.

Investment from VCs and others was also active. According to Seoul Startup Hub, the total investment attracted by startups participating in this festival amounted to 44.3 billion KRW. This was the result of approximately 2,000 meet-ups conducted between startups and VCs since early this year. Considering that most events were held online due to COVID-19, this is regarded as an encouraging outcome.
Discussions related to the global startup ecosystem were also held. A representative example is the "Global Startup Policy Roundtable" held on the 16th at the Shilla Hotel Yeongbingwan in Jung-gu, Seoul. Officials from embassies of six countries including India, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and Canada attended this event to discuss the achievements of startups in each country and cooperation plans to revitalize the startup ecosystem. On the 17th, sessions were held where global unicorn cases (unlisted companies valued at over 1 trillion KRW) were presented by Team Hwang, CEO of FiscalNote, and An Ikjin, CEO of Moloco.

Large corporations also continued to discover promising startups. In fact, seven major companies including the global home appliance company Haier, Binggrae, OB Beer, S-Oil, and Kyowon held various meet-ups with startups for investment and technology exchange. During this process, Binggrae showed interest in the unmanned vending machine startup "Dosigongyu Platform" and the livestock healthcare startup "Chuksan Data." Startups finally selected as cooperation partners by large corporations receive support such as commercialization funds and office space at Seoul Startup Hub.
Lee Taehoon, head of Seoul Startup Hub, said, "Try Everything is a global innovation company festival involving various domestic and international startups, as well as many VCs and large corporations," adding, "We plan to continue efforts in various ways to inject dynamism into the startup ecosystem."
