Creating Clean and Beautiful Villages Led and Participated by Residents of 46 Villages
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Damyang-gun, Jeonnam Province, is accelerating the ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Creation’ project.
According to the county on the 17th, since April, the project has been planned by residents, selecting a total of 46 villages as Best Villages, and supporting each village with 3 million won annually for three years, totaling 9 million won, under the ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Creation’ project.
The ‘Clean Jeonnam Best Village Creation’ project is a resident-led initiative in which residents directly participate and take the lead.
The county is carrying out various projects reflecting the unique characteristics of each village to restore community spirit and create clean villages, such as improving wastewater treatment facilities, creating village walking trails and flower gardens, and painting murals.
In particular, by forming a task force for each village and through active participation of residents via village meetings, residents’ autonomy councils, and village self-governance councils, 28 villages have completed the project so far, and 18 villages are actively promoting the project until the end.
A county official said, “The village atmosphere, which had been stagnant due to COVID-19, has brightened as residents had time to communicate and participate through the Clean Jeonnam Best Village Creation project,” and added, “We will devote ourselves to supporting the project led by residents to revitalize the villages and realize Damyang-style resident autonomy.”
