[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] The operator of the Twitter account 'Mawang,' which posted over 100 sexually exploitative videos, has been arrested by the police.
On the 17th, the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency apprehended Park Mo (33) on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (filming using cameras, etc.) and distributing obscene materials under the Information and Communications Network Act, and applied for an arrest warrant.
Park is accused of uploading more than 100 sexually exploitative videos, including victims who were minors, to the Twitter account over a two-month period from June to August this year. The account had tens of thousands of followers.
The police received a tip-off about Park's crimes and, after investigation, arrested him late in the afternoon on the 14th.
The police are conducting investigations targeting about 10 victims, including minors, and are tracking men who participated in filming the videos.
It is known that some of the victims testified that they consented to the filming of the videos.
On the 3rd of this month, a post was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition site, claiming that there is a Twitter account that treats women as sex slaves and urging strong punishment and disclosure of personal information, which brought Park's crimes to light. So far, about 20,000 people have agreed to this petition.
