Mayor Heo Seong-mu, Wednesday is 'Lighthearted Bus Riding Day'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Changwon City in Gyeongnam Province is operating a "Bus Riding Day" to ensure the successful establishment of the quasi-public operation system for city buses.

On the 17th, Mayor Heo Seong-mu announced at an executive meeting that every Wednesday will be designated as "Lighthearted Bus Riding Day."

The purpose is to increase city bus usage by having public officials commute by city bus at least one day a week. In September, the New Transportation Promotion Team responsible for public transportation will participate; in October, the Safety Construction and Transportation Bureau; and in November, Changwon City Hall employees will join.

In December, all Changwon city officials, including district offices and affiliated organizations, will participate, and in January next year, citizens will sequentially join "Lighthearted Bus Riding Day."

Mayor Heo emphasized, "For the quasi-public operation system to be well established, efforts are needed not only from bus companies and drivers but also from Changwon City."

After a three-year preparation period, Changwon City started the quasi-public operation system for city buses on the 1st of this month. Changwon City guarantees an appropriate profit to bus companies, while the city bus industry strengthens route operation responsibility by reducing reckless driving, cancellations, and public transportation blind spots.
