133 Welfare Organizations in Yeosu Support Gifts for 600 Households of Elderly Living Alone and North Korean Defectors
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] GS Caltex Jeonnam Yeosu Plant is warming the local community by delivering goods worth 100 million won to underprivileged neighbors in the Yeosu area for Chuseok.
On the 16th, GS Caltex held a donation ceremony for the "Sharing Warmth of Love for Chuseok with GS Caltex" at Yeosu City Hall, attended by Kwon Oh-bong, Mayor of Yeosu, Jang Young, Co-chairman of the Yeosu Community Social Security Council, and Kim Sung-min, GS Caltex Production Plant Manager.
The total donation of 100 million won was used to prepare 1,181 bags of 20kg rice and 600 food gift sets produced in the Yeosu area, which were delivered to 133 welfare institutions in Yeosu, 460 single elderly households, and 140 North Korean defectors' households.
The food gift sets were composed of 17 items reflecting the preferences of the beneficiary households, including flour, samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), instant rice, doenjang (soybean paste), soy sauce, sesame oil, cooking oil, sugar, glass noodles, and gim (seaweed), all used for preparing traditional holiday foods.
GS Caltex's "Sharing Warmth of Love for Chuseok" has continued for 17 years since 2005, and the total value of goods delivered to underprivileged neighbors in the Yeosu area amounts to 1.4 billion won.
Kim Sung-min, Production Plant Manager, said, "Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, interest and support for neighbors in need within the community are more necessary than ever. We will continue efforts to promote local welfare together with Yeosu City, which is demonstrating exemplary welfare administration."
Meanwhile, GS Caltex continues sharing activities to alleviate difficulties of socially marginalized groups in the community due to the prolonged COVID-19, such as delivering emergency relief food sets, side dish packages, and lunch boxes to elderly people at risk of food insecurity.
