[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Kang Il-won (61, Judicial Research and Training Institute class 13), former Justice of the Constitutional Court, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Prosecutorial Investigation Deliberation Committee.
On the 17th, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that Kang, former Justice, was appointed as chairman of the Prosecutorial Investigation Deliberation Committee, which had been vacant following the resignation of former Supreme Court Justice Yang Chang-soo.
After completing his term as a Justice of the Constitutional Court in September 2018, Kang served as a full member of the Venice Commission, an international constitutional advisory body, and co-chairman of the Constitutional Court Joint Committee.
The Prosecutorial Investigation Deliberation Committee is composed of between 150 and 250 experts with extensive knowledge and experience in various fields. Fifteen current issue members, randomly selected, deliberate and decide on whether to continue investigations and whether to prosecute specific cases under review.
