Public Sector Holds Candid Communication Session to Prepare for 'With Corona' Era
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 16th, Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il held a "Thought Sharing Communication Date" with eight Grade 7 public officials in the Jinju City Hall situation room, the mayor's office announced on the 17th.
The Thought Sharing Communication Date was organized to listen to the difficulties of employees who have been working hard during the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and especially to enhance the sense of belonging and responsibility of new public officials who are guarding the front lines of quarantine, thereby improving organizational adaptability.
On August 27, a conversation was held with Grade 9 public officials, and on September 1, with Grade 8 public officials. Mayor Cho and the officials shared their thoughts in a free and comfortable atmosphere.
To facilitate open communication with the employees, Mayor Cho led the atmosphere by saying, "Since this event was prepared to create a joyful and happy workplace, I hope it will be a time to comfortably share each person's thoughts and opinions experienced during their public service life rather than discussing work."
Although the young generation was honest and confident, there was some tension at first as it was their first face-to-face communication with the mayor, but laughter occasionally broke out thanks to Mayor Cho Gyu-il’s relaxed facilitation.
During the approximately 90-minute communication date, the employees shared the city administration vision together through candid questions and answers with the mayor and exchanged sincere stories about their experiences as public officials.
Kang Min, a new public official, said, "While working in public service, I found many differences from what I had thought in society and many parts I did not understand. This communication date became an opportunity to change my perspective, and from now on, I will not lose my initial resolve as a public official and always be a kind public servant who puts citizens first."
Mayor Cho concluded the communication time by saying, "I regretted the lack of opportunities to communicate with employees due to COVID-19, but I am glad that this communication date provided a chance to be together. I hope you become public officials who have a sense of mission as servants of the citizens, communicate with them, and do your best for the development of city administration."
