Prime Minister Kim's Job Performance Evaluation: 'Positive 37.9% vs Negative 46.8%'

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A public opinion poll revealed that the approval rating for Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum's job performance does not reach 40%. On a 100-point scale, it remained at 43.5 points.

On the 17th, Realmeter conducted a survey from the 17th to the 31st of last month, targeting 5,550 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide, evaluating Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum's job performance. The negative evaluation was 46.8% (22.3% very poor, 24.6% somewhat poor), which was 9.0 percentage points higher than the positive evaluation of 37.9% (10.1% very good, 27.7% somewhat good). "Don't know/no response" accounted for 15.3%. The score on a 100-point scale was 43.5.


By region, except for Honam and Jeju, most areas showed higher negative evaluations, with Daegu-Gyeongbuk (54.5%) and Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (50.5%) showing a majority negative evaluation over 50%. This was followed by Seoul (49.2%), Daejeon-Sejong-Chungcheong (48.5%), Gangwon (46.0%), and Incheon-Gyeonggi (46.0%).


On the other hand, Gwangju and Jeolla showed a high positive evaluation of 53.3%.


By age group, negative evaluations were highest among those in their 30s (52.4%), 18-29 years old (51.9%), 60s (47.8%), and 70 and older (45.5%), while those in their 40s showed a majority positive evaluation at 45.9%.


This survey was conducted using a mixed method of random phone calls to landlines and mobile phones, telephone interviews, and automated responses. Statistical adjustments were made by applying weights based on gender, age group, and region according to the resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of April 2021. The sampling error is ±1.3 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate was 5.3%.
