Naver Accelerates Building 'Global AI Research Belt'... Recruiting Talent from the US and Japan Professor Sakai Tetsuya

Naver is accelerating cooperation in the 'Global AI Research Belt' by recruiting external experts in the fields of global search and artificial intelligence (AI).

On the 17th, Naver announced that it has recruited Dr. Yongbeom Kim, an expert in conversational AI, as the lead responsible, and Professor Tetsuya Sakai of the Department of Computer Science at Waseda University in Japan as the chief research advisor.

Dr. Kim earned his Ph.D. in natural language processing (NLP) from the University of Wisconsin in the United States and has worked at global companies such as Microsoft (MS) and Amazon. Professor Sakai has gained experience as the head of the NewsWatch NLP Research Institute and at MS Research Asia. Over the past 20 years, he has been recognized as an expert in search quality evaluation by researching methods to assess the effectiveness of PC and mobile search, question answering, and natural language dialogue.

Naver's consecutive recruitment of external talents active in global locations such as Japan and the United States aims to improve the technology and quality of its search services. This is a strategic move to further solidify cooperation within Naver's 'Global AI Research Belt,' which spans from Korea, Japan, Europe, Vietnam, and Hong Kong to the United States and worldwide.

Naver explained that the Global AI Research Belt is a technology research network created to lead a new global technology trend in response to the US-China technological hegemony and to enable limitless technology research beyond borders. Kang Inho, lead responsible at Naver Search CIC, stated, "Going forward, Naver will continue to strengthen collaboration and exchange with outstanding researchers worldwide as a technology-leading company and strive for even higher technological growth."
