Mayor Oh Se-hoon: Is He Trying to Start 'Aggro Politics'?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has been criticized for engaging in 'aggro politics,' which refers to provocative content or malicious actions intended to attract attention and cause controversy.

On the 16th, Moon Jang-gil, spokesperson for the Seoul Metropolitan Council's Democratic Party of Korea, issued a statement saying, "Mayor Oh's aggro politics are becoming increasingly outrageous. The mayor, obsessed with achieving his political goals, is engrossed in misleading and disparaging Seoul's past administration?built through the efforts of countless people?with sensational language and biased interpretations."

Spokesperson Moon stated, "In a recent briefing, Mayor Oh described the governance of public-private cooperation as an 'ATM' and referred to laws and regulations designed to ensure fair procedures as 'nails.' He used sensational and low-quality words merely to attract public attention. However, in the process, Mayor Oh's flawed understanding of administration was clearly revealed."

He added, "The era of government-led administration ended long ago. The direction of administrative management is moving toward delegation of authority, citizen participation, and governance through public-private cooperation?an aspect that an administrator responsible for 10 million Seoul citizens must understand. Mayor Oh's elitist perception, which condemns citizen participation itself as a deep-rooted evil and attempts to revert to a government-centered approach, has been clearly exposed. Is Mayor Oh truly trying to pull out the nails and drive in even bigger stakes in their place?" he countered.

Furthermore, he criticized Mayor Oh for also labeling the employment succession regulations of entrusted institutions as 'nails,' without proposing any alternatives. He expressed deep regret over the fact that the mayor only criticized the regulations established to ensure employment stability without any genuine consideration.

Spokesperson Moon said, "It is only natural to clearly reveal any violations of laws and procedures in project execution. However, no concrete evidence has emerged so far. Mayor Oh's behavior, focusing on killing the former mayor based solely on suspicions and treating a small speck as a systemic problem, is utterly disgraceful." He admonished, "As a servant of 10 million citizens, Mayor Oh should maintain his composure and be cautious in his words and actions. He should deeply consider the impact on the numerous public officials and staff who trust and follow their leader."

Finally, the Democratic Party of Korea in the Seoul Metropolitan Council reiterated its urgent request for Mayor Oh to immediately cease aggro politics and focus on stabilizing Seoul's administration and COVID-19 prevention efforts.
