[Asia Economy Reporters Seunggon Han, PD Jingeun Yoon] "I don't like it when they strike.", "Striking is also a right."
Due to the Cargo Solidarity strike, the supply of bread and dough is delayed at Paris Baguette stores in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions. Earlier, the Public Transport Union Cargo Solidarity Headquarters announced on the 15th, "Starting at midnight today, all SPC workplaces nationwide have refused transportation and begun striking."
Cargo Solidarity claimed, "The SPC branch in the Gwangju area requested additional vehicles to improve poor working conditions caused by excessive transportation volume to the logistics subsidiary. After repeated concessions, it was agreed to increase by two vehicles, but afterward, only disadvantages were imposed on Cargo Solidarity members."
Citizens' reactions to this situation are divided. While some argue that striking is a legitimate right of workers, others point out that the damage caused by the strike inevitably falls on customers.
On the afternoon of the 16th, office worker Mr. A (34), met in Myeongdong, Jung-gu, Seoul, said, "The biggest victims in the conflict between Paris Baguette and Cargo Solidarity are the franchise stores," adding, "They have to sell products but cannot because there are no goods, and on top of that, they inevitably bear burdens such as rent."
He continued, "From the customer's perspective, they are dissatisfied because they cannot buy bread," and pointed out, "I think they can claim compensation rights against Cargo Solidarity in future legal disputes."
Another citizen in their 50s, Mr. B, said, "The biggest victims in the conflict between Paris Baguette and Cargo Solidarity are the citizens," and added, "Providing treatment that meets Cargo Solidarity's demands will resolve the issue quickly."
Office worker Mr. C in his 30s said, "Paris Baguette mostly operates in a franchise format, so franchise owners will also suffer difficulties in running their businesses," emphasizing, "But that does not mean we can blindly condemn the drivers belonging to Cargo Solidarity." He added, "In a democratic society, striking is also recognized as a right."
