Rain Nationwide on Chuseok Day 21st Due to Low Pressure
Clear and Cool Weather from 18th to 20th
Low Chance of Full Moon Observation on 21st Due to Rain
Full Moon May Be Visible Only in Jeju and Southern Regions Depending on Cloud Movement Speed
Rain Expected in Seoul Metropolitan Area and Yeongseo on Morning of 22nd
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] From the 18th to the 20th, when the Chuseok holiday begins, clear weather will continue, but on Chuseok day, the 21st, rain will fall nationwide due to the influence of a low-pressure system. It is uncertain whether people will be able to make wishes while viewing the full moon on Chuseok day because of the rain.
On the 16th, the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that after the typhoon passes, high pressure will affect Korea, resulting in generally clear skies nationwide from the 18th to the 20th, with rain expected nationwide from the 21st due to the low-pressure system.
Between the 18th and 20th, under the influence of high pressure, mornings will be cool, and daytime will have strong sunlight, causing a large temperature difference between day and night. The morning low temperatures from the 18th to the 20th are expected to be between 15 and 21 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius.
On Chuseok day, the 21st, a low-pressure system developing over inland China will pass north of Korea, starting rain in the western regions at dawn and expanding nationwide by morning.
As the low-pressure system moves eastward, rain will stop first in the western regions from the afternoon of the 21st. Dry air will flow in behind the low-pressure system (west side), temporarily clearing the weather.
Woo Jin-gyu, a forecaster at the Korea Meteorological Administration, said, "On the 21st, rain will fall once nationwide due to a rain cloud band associated with a frontal zone. After the rain clouds pass, a second front will form as the low-pressure system meets cold air coming from the north, causing another round of rain in the central regions during the first half of the 22nd."
Depending on the speed of the rain cloud band passing over Korea on Chuseok day, it may be difficult to see the full moon. The Meteorological Administration explained that since the cloud band forms long in the north-south direction, the possibility of observing the full moon is higher in Jeju and southern regions than in the central regions.
Forecaster Woo explained, "The rain cloud band will clear quickly in the southern regions without being affected by the second front, so there is a slightly higher chance of seeing the full moon in Jeju and the southern regions. However, since the rain cloud band is narrow and highly mobile, the exact timing of when the rain stops can be provided by region closer to the forecast date."
Due to the rain clouds, raindrops are expected in the central regions from dawn to morning on the 22nd. Rain and morning fog on the 21st and 22nd may increase the risk of traffic accidents on the return trip, so traffic safety should be carefully observed.
As the low-pressure system approaches, strong winds and high waves are expected over the central West Sea on the 20th, and from the 21st, mainly over the East Sea as the low-pressure system passes.
The Korea Meteorological Administration urged, "The rain expected on the 21st and 22nd is highly variable in terms of start and end times and intensity depending on the movement of the low-pressure system and the speed of dry air inflow. Please check upcoming weather information and local forecasts for detailed regional rainfall timing and amounts."
