Busan Dongnae Police Station, Denied but Caught by DNA Inside Patient's Body
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] A gynecologist in his 50s has been arrested on charges of administering propofol to a female patient who had undergone uterine fibroid surgery and sexually assaulting her.
On the 16th, the Dongnae Police Station in Busan announced that they had arrested Dr. A on charges of sexual assault after he administered anesthesia again to a female patient who had just completed surgery at a gynecology hospital in Dongnae-gu and committed a heinous act.
Dr. A denied the crime until the end but was caught through DNA analysis.
The hospital currently posted a notice of closure due to the entry of COVID-19 confirmed patients and informed that the medical staff are in self-quarantine, but the hospital director, Dr. A, is currently detained on charges including sexual assault.
According to the police, in February, Dr. A administered an additional dose of the sedative propofol to a patient recovering after uterine fibroid surgery.
Dr. A committed a sexual act against the patient while she was under anesthesia. The crime, which took place in an operating room without CCTV or nurses, was discovered when the female patient woke up from anesthesia earlier than expected. Dr. A denied the charges until the end, but DNA from Dr. A was detected on the patient’s body, leading the court to issue an arrest warrant.
The prosecution is investigating whether Dr. A committed additional offenses.
