[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] SK Broadband announced on the 16th that it will conduct a pilot service supporting senior education using the B tv Media Board in collaboration with three senior welfare centers in Gunpo and Gwangmyeong Sohae, Gyeonggi Province, and Paldal, Suwon.
Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, local welfare centers were closed, severely limiting seniors' participation in various leisure activities and social programs operated by the centers. Local senior welfare centers also faced many difficulties in conducting various lifelong education programs non-face-to-face.
SK Broadband provides a customized corporate broadcasting solution, B tv Media Board, to local welfare centers, supporting not only real-time broadcasting via IPTV but also video playlist broadcasting and real-time subtitle display. Using its own broadcasting technology, it enables social workers working at welfare centers and local seniors to communicate easily and conveniently in a non-face-to-face manner.
Through this, the senior welfare centers in the respective areas can conduct various senior education programs such as music, humanities, and foreign languages in real-time on B tv channel 800 for pre-registered seniors. Two-way video education is also possible through an IP camera installed on the set-top box. Additionally, popular health videos for seniors or recorded welfare center education program videos can be scheduled and broadcast by day and time. Furthermore, various useful daily information for seniors, such as COVID-19 prevention guidelines or weather forecasts requiring prior preparation, can be provided via real-time subtitles.
SK Broadband plans to continue this pilot service until the end of this year and aims to expand it nationwide next year by analyzing the satisfaction of social workers and seniors and improving any shortcomings.
Kim Gu-young, Head of SK Broadband Corporate Customer Group 1, said, “Rapid social changes have deepened information asymmetry among seniors, increasing relative feelings of depression and loneliness, becoming a serious social problem. B tv Media Board will continue to develop support measures for socially vulnerable groups using its own media technology to resolve such social issues and help spread social value.”
