Five Recipients Selected for the 14th Gumin Award in Buk-gu, Gwangju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] On the 15th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) announced that it has selected five residents who contributed to the development of the local community and the welfare of residents as the recipients of the '14th Resident Award.'


This year's Resident Award was open for applications in five categories: ▲Local Economy ▲Community Service ▲Culture, Arts and Sports ▲Filial Piety ▲Outstanding Disabled Person.


Yang Hongjun, CEO of Jul-Ondol Co., Ltd., the winner in the Local Economy category, contributed to the development of related industries by developing heating technology that can reduce energy costs.


Ko Youngcheol, Chairman of the Cultural Credit Union, who won in the Community Service category, set an example for society by carrying out various volunteer and sponsorship activities to promote welfare and environmental fields.


Jung Yonggyu, winner in the Culture, Arts and Sports category, was recognized for his efforts to expand the base of public art by operating the Buk-gu Artists' Formative Research Association, creating the Ddaseun Village in Yangsan-dong, and participating in the Gwangju Biennale.


Lee Youngsook, winner in the Filial Piety category, practiced filial piety by raising four children as the eldest daughter-in-law of 13 siblings and caring for her parents-in-law who showed symptoms of dementia.


Kim Jonghun, winner in the Outstanding Disabled Person category, despite having a level 1 moderate disability, contributed to creating a place for support and exchange for disabled families by forming an online club for spinal cord disabled persons and establishing a support center for disabled families.


Meanwhile, Buk-gu plans to award the Resident Awards at the '2021 Buk-gu Residents' Day' event to be held on the 27th.


District Mayor Moon In said, "I sincerely congratulate and respect the awardees who have devoted themselves to creating a livable local community," adding, "We will continue to make the 430,000 residents the driving force for Buk-gu's development and do our best to build a happy Buk-gu where everyone lives well together."
