Ko Yong-jin, senior spokesperson of the Democratic Party, told reporters after the morning Supreme Council meeting, "The leadership had many concerns, but we agreed to respect former leader Lee's resolute will and loyalty and to submit and process his resignation from the National Assembly at today's plenary session."
Former leader Lee's resignation proposal is expected to be processed before the start of the National Assembly's government questioning session at 2 p.m. that day.
Earlier, Speaker Park Byeong-seok, after meeting with former leader Lee the previous day, said, "I heard his intention to resign," and added, "We will decide after consulting with the party."
