[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] China’s largest trade fair, the China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), will be held offline for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19, China News Network reported on the 14th.

This year’s Canton Fair will be held from the 15th in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. Due to quarantine measures, the offline exhibition period has been drastically shortened to 5 days, one-third of the usual duration. Participants must be vaccinated and submit a negative nucleic acid test result to enter.

Marking its 130th session this year, the Canton Fair was held online last year due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19. This year, for the first time ever, both offline and online exhibitions will be held simultaneously. The offline exhibition area covers 400,000㎡, with 7,500 companies participating.

The Canton Fair has been held twice a year, in spring and autumn, in Guangzhou. It is the oldest, largest, and most diverse trade fair in China.

Ren Hongbin, Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Commerce, said, "It helps maintain a favorable economic recovery situation, demonstrates China’s determination to expand openness, and promotes the remarkable achievements of socialist economic construction and reform and opening-up under the leadership of the Communist Party."
