Coffin Communications Secures 15 Billion KRW Investment from Global Investor NPX Capital

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Jeong-su] Digital content developer Kopin Communications announced on the 14th that it has secured an investment of 15 billion KRW (13 million USD) from NPX Private Equity (NPX PE), a private equity firm affiliated with the global investment company NPX Capital. The invested funds are planned to be used for business expansion and strengthening content production capabilities.

Founded in 2017, Kopin Communications is an emerging digital content development company specializing in character design, emoticons, webtoons, and animation production. NPX PE, which participated as an investor, recently evaluated Kopin Communications as one of the fastest-growing comprehensive webtoon studios.

NPX PE particularly focused on Kopin Communications’ high production competitiveness. It is highly regarded for producing more works than the combined output of the top three domestic webtoon producers through its own production and collaboration channels. It was explained that the company possesses an innovative production process that shortens production time by streamlining the production system and increasing internal resource utilization through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Kopin Communications entered the North American market at the end of last year, using the domestic market as a stepping stone. Currently, it has secured 400,000 monthly active users (MAU), which is the third highest after Kakao and Naver. To target the global market, the company plans to soon expand into high-potential markets such as Europe, Japan, South America, and Southeast Asia.

The funds secured through NPX Capital’s investment will be used to realize the company’s future plans and vision, including business expansion and strengthening production capabilities. Kopin Communications plans to enhance the utilization of intellectual property (IP), one of the key success factors in the digital content business, based on a rapid expansion strategy through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and equity investments.

Samuel Hwang, CEO of NPX Capital, stated, “Kopin Communications’ digital content business is just the starting point,” adding, “It will evolve into a content metaverse that breaks existing frameworks and expands people’s enjoyment, passion, and range of choices.”

Meanwhile, NPX Capital is a global alternative investment company established in 2016. It is headquartered in Seoul and Los Angeles (LA), USA, and has a total of about 20 investment professionals across four offices in Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore, and LA. Its investment portfolio includes △ ‘Riiid,’ a leading startup in AI-based edutech △ ‘Masspresso,’ which operates the AI learning app Qanda △ ‘SmartStudy,’ a global intellectual property (IP) specialist company famous for ‘Pinkfong’ △ and ‘NPX Point Avenue,’ an edutech company providing world-class comprehensive education services mainly in the Southeast Asian market.
