Yeosu City Councilor Kim Young-gyu Urges Yeosu City to Take Action
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shim Kyung-taek] A claim has been made that Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do should actively pursue the construction of bridges in the Geumo-do area.
On the 7th, Yeosu City Council member Kim Young-gyu emphasized in a 10-minute speech at the 213th extraordinary session, “If three bridges connecting the entire Geumo area from Wolho-do are constructed, it will become a new chapter in Yeosu’s history.”
It is anticipated that connecting Geumo-do by bridges, following the existing Yeosu-Goheung land-bridge and the currently underway Baekya-Dolsan bridge, will become a future source of tourism revenue for Yeosu.
According to Councilman Kim, Jeollanam-do is currently conducting a basic survey for the construction of three bridges connecting the Geumo-do area. The project aims to connect Wolho-do to Durado and Geumo-do, and extend to Ando and Yeondo, with 300 million KRW secured from provincial funds to create a basic plan worth approximately 300 billion KRW by mid-next year.
Councilman Kim pointed out, “Although Jeollanam-do, residents, and nationwide hometown associations are putting their utmost effort into promoting this, Yeosu City, the main party, is nowhere to be seen.”
He added, “The Geumo-do bridge project does not end with just creating a basic plan; Yeosu City has a mountain of tasks to accomplish, including securing logical validity, budget acquisition, and mobilizing citizen capabilities. I hope our city will no longer delay and take the initiative to establish a citywide support system to back this project.”
Regarding Yeosu City’s key project, the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo, he also urged, “To successfully host the Islands Expo, Yeosu must actively support the land-bridge project in Hwajeong-myeon area and the bridge project in the Geumo-do area.”
