[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The original musical 'Frankenstein,' returning for its fourth season after three years, has revealed its casting lineup.
The musical 'Frankenstein' is based on Mary Shelley's novel published in 1818. Through the story of a man who aspired to be a god and a creature who longed to be human, the musical invites audiences to reconsider human selfishness and the essence of life, earning great love.
The musical 'Frankenstein' received significant attention when it premiered in 2014, winning a total of nine awards at the 8th 'The Musical Awards,' including 'Musical of the Year' and 'Best Original Musical.' In its 2016 revival, it surpassed 10 billion KRW in sales within 10 weeks of opening, setting a record for the highest single-season sales. In January 2017, it signed a licensing contract with Japan's major production company Toho Productions, achieving outstanding box office success locally as well.
The casting has also drawn interest. The role of 'Victor Frankenstein,' a genius with knowledge spanning philosophy, science, and medicine and a strong obsession with his research, is played by Min Woo-hyuk, Jeon Dong-seok, and Kyuhyun. Notably, Kyuhyun, the main vocalist of Super Junior and acclaimed for his performances in musicals such as 'Phantom,' 'The Man Who Laughs,' and 'Mozart!,' joins this season as the new 'Victor.'
The roles of 'Henri Dupre,' a soldier with strong convictions who meets Victor on the battlefield and becomes his assistant fascinated by his research, and 'The Monster,' Victor's creation, are played by actors Park Eun-tae, Kai, and Jung Taek-woon. Particularly, Jung Taek-woon, the main vocalist of the group VIXX and lead in productions like 'Marie Antoinette,' 'Elisabeth,' and 'The Count of Monte Cristo,' joins this musical as his first project after military service.
The role of 'Julia,' Victor's fianc?e who understands and embraces him lovingly, is newly cast with Ha-na and Lee Bom-so-ri.
Actors Seo Ji-young and Kim Ji-woo portray 'Ellen,' the only family member who understands Victor and holds the secrets and pains of Victor and his family.
Lee Hee-jung, who plays 'Stefan,' the mayor of Geneva and Julia's father, will appear on stage from the premiere through the fourth season. Seo Hyun-chul, recognized for his acting skills and presence in theater, broadcasting, and film, is newly added. Additionally, actors Kim Dae-jong and Lee Jung-soo will reprise their roles as 'Lunge,' Victor's loyal butler, providing a flavorful supporting role.
The performance will be held from November 24 at the Blue Square Shinhan Card Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
