Dongjak-gu 'Yongyang Bongjeojeong Park Observatory Cafe' New Construction Fully Underway Yongyang Bongjeojeong Park Observation Cafe Winning Design Bird's-Eye View

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced on the 13th that it has completed the design competition review for the construction of a 'view cafe' utilizing the slope as part of the second phase of the Yongyangbongjeojeong Park project and is entering full-scale preparation for construction.

Earlier, at the end of April, the district completed the first phase of the Yongyangbongjeojeong Park project, the 'Nature Yard,' after more than three years of construction, and opened it to residents.

The district held a design competition in mid-July to ensure that the view cafe harmonizes with the surrounding natural environment while featuring an original design that can serve as a new landmark along the Han River.

By the end of August, 16 companies submitted entries, and five external experts in architectural design reviewed them, ultimately selecting a total of five works: ▲ one winning entry (Park Dohyun Architectural Office), ▲ one excellence award, and ▲ three honorable mentions.

The view cafe is planned to be built with a budget of 2.3 billion KRW, consisting of four floors above ground (total floor area 450㎡). After completing the design based on the winning entry, construction is scheduled to begin by the end of this year, aiming for completion in December next year.

The district is promoting the 'Yongyangbongjeojeong Area Tourism Attraction Project,' which utilizes the historical value of Yongyangbongjeojeong, imbued with King Jeongjo's filial piety during the Joseon Dynasty, by integrating historical, cultural, and natural resources into a tourism product.

This month, the 'Dongjak Youth Cafe No.1 The Han River,' remodeled from the old district senior center building that had been abandoned for over 10 years, completed its renovation and is scheduled to open after Chuseok.

Additionally, by next year, the district plans to complete not only its own projects such as ▲ the creation of the Yongyangbongjeojeong historical and cultural space and ▲ the Bondong urban regeneration New Deal, but also Seoul city-linked projects including ▲ the establishment of a pedestrian network along the Han River, ▲ the redevelopment of Nodeulnaru Park, and ▲ the demolition of the Nodeul overpass.

Lee Chang-woo, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “The summit of Yongyangbongjeojeong Park is a representative scenic spot south of the Han River where you can enjoy a panoramic view from the Han River to distant Namsan and Bukhansan.” He added, “We will do our best to build the view cafe so that it can serve as a catalyst for creating the ‘Bondong Cafe Culture Street’ along with the ‘Dongjak Youth Cafe No.1 The Han River.’”
