Hiring 'Citizen Participation Monitoring Team' for Direct Inspection of Emission Sites During High Concentration Fine Dust Periods
50 Selected to Operate for 8 Months Starting November, Online Applications Open from the 15th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 10th that it is recruiting the ‘Citizen Participation Monitoring Group for Illegal Fine Dust Emissions,’ which will thoroughly monitor fine dust emission sources such as air pollutant emission facilities and construction sites, and take the lead in promoting fine dust reduction to workplaces and citizens.
The Citizen Participation Monitoring Group will be active for eight months from November this year to June next year, with 50 people selected. After recruitment, two members will be assigned to each of the 25 autonomous districts to focus on inspecting whether air pollutant emission facilities and construction sites are illegally emitting fine dust.
The Citizen Participation Monitoring Group, which was active from November last year to June this year, inspected 2,012 air pollutant emission facilities and 1,809 dust-generating facilities. In particular, during the second fine dust seasonal management period, they detected 11 cases of fines and administrative sanctions.
Applicants must be citizens aged 18 or older residing in Seoul as of the announcement date and able to perform environmental monitoring activities without difficulty. The application period is from the 14th to the 24th. After document screening and interviews, the final successful candidates will be announced on October 13 and will be assigned to each autonomous district to start work from November.
More detailed information can be found in the recruitment announcement section on the Seoul Metropolitan Government website, and inquiries can be made to the Seoul Metropolitan Air Policy Division or the Seoul Green Environment Support Center.
Hadongjun, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Air Policy Division, said, “Seoul will strengthen the continuous monitoring system for major fine dust emission sources together with the Citizen Participation Monitoring Group and prepare thoroughly for the third fine dust seasonal management measures to be implemented from December this year to improve air quality. We ask for the active interest and participation of citizens in the monitoring group’s activities.”
