New Expressions of Gwanghwamun Square: Art and Festival, Rest and Culture Plaza
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 10th that it will hold the 'Preview Gwanghwamun Square Illustration Contest,' where people can experience various new aspects of Gwanghwamun Square in advance, for 8 weeks from the 13th to November 5th.
In this contest, participants can freely express their desired scenes of the new Gwanghwamun Square through illustrations or other forms. Submissions can depict everyday or extraordinary scenes unfolding within Gwanghwamun Square, such as a square showing the past, present, and future; a lively square with picnics, relaxation, and busking; or a square hosting arts and festivals.
Entries can be submitted by uploading an application form and image file through the contest website, and any Korean citizen interested in Gwanghwamun Square is eligible to participate. There is no limit to the number of works one person can submit, but only one highest-scoring work per person will be awarded.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government will evaluate the entries based on theme relevance, artistic quality, and symbolism, selecting a total of 16 winning works to be announced on November 15th. The awards include 1 Grand Prize, 2 Excellence Awards, 3 Merit Awards, and 10 Encouragement Awards, totaling 16 winners.
The winning works will be exhibited at Gwanghwamun Square and used to promote the square through various policy materials, promotional souvenirs, websites, and social media.
Sachang-hoon, head of the Gwanghwamun Square Planning Division of Seoul City, said, "Through this contest, we hope people can experience in advance the everyday and extraordinary scenes of the newly developed Gwanghwamun Square during the prolonged COVID-19 untact period," and added, "We ask for the active interest and participation of citizens in the Preview Gwanghwamun Square Illustration Contest."
