[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Polytechnic University, a national special university under the Ministry of Employment and Labor, will begin recruiting new students for its two-year degree programs for the next academic year starting from the 10th.
On the 8th, Polytechnic University announced the application schedule, stating that a total of 6,870 students will be selected across 158 departments at 28 campuses nationwide. The first early admission round will be held from the 10th until November 4th, followed by the second early admission round from November 8th to 22nd, and regular admissions from December 30th to January 12th of next year. Up to 85% of the university's quota will be filled during the first early admission round.
Polytechnic University highlighted its specialized education programs related to artificial intelligence technology (AI), which is seeing increasing demand across various industries. Level-based AI education courses have been established for all enrolled students. ICT majors will also receive advanced training, including hands-on practice with machine learning algorithms using the Python programming language. Additionally, new AI-related departments (such as Artificial Intelligence Software (SW) and AI Convergence) have been established in Seoul, Daejeon, and Gwangju to cultivate talent in related fields.
Cases of young people who prepared for civil service exams or majored in humanities acquiring new technologies and securing employment in related companies were also disclosed. According to Polytechnic University, Jung Soonwon (30), who was preparing for civil service exams, obtained three certifications including Injection Mold Industry Engineer through Polytechnic University during his exam preparation period and passed the technical civil service exam. Lee Dalbit (28), who graduated with a history degree from a four-year university, enrolled at the Semiconductor Convergence Campus of Polytechnic University, obtained a Precision Measurement Industry Engineer certification, and is currently working in the equipment calibration field at KEPCO KPS.
Starting this year, reflecting the prolonged COVID-19 situation, measures have been put in place for overseas high school graduates who find it difficult to continue their studies abroad. Applicants who have completed 12 or more years of schooling abroad or have completed an educational curriculum equivalent to domestic higher education standards can apply without needing GED or CSAT scores. Polytechnic University stated, "Tuition is economical at around 1.3 million KRW per semester, and there are various tuition support programs," adding, "As of last year, 80.4% of enrolled students received scholarship benefits."
