Seoul City Selects Subsidy Operators for Installation and Operation of Outlet-Type Chargers
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] SK Broadband's subsidiary Home&Service is entering the urban electric vehicle charging business.
SK Broadband announced on the 8th that its subsidiary Home&Service (100% stake) has been selected as the '2021 Electric Vehicle Outlet-type Charger Installation and Operation Subsidy Operator' by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The electric vehicle outlet-type charger is a simple charging system that can be easily installed using wall outlets in apartment or office building parking lots.
Since apartments allow charging mainly during nighttime while working from home, they are preferred by electric vehicle users in terms of convenience and cost compared to other charging spaces. It can be charged as easily and simply as a mobile phone, and there is no need to install separate charging facilities occupying a certain area, minimizing parking conflicts. Nighttime electricity usage is low, which can also contribute to the dispersion of national electricity demand. It is expected to contribute to the popularization of electric vehicles in the future.
Home&Service, which opened in 2017, is an SK Broadband subsidiary responsible for ultra-high-speed internet and IPTV installation and AS services, securing 6.2 million customers nationwide. In particular, it stably maintains and manages information and communication facilities installed in 97% of multi-family housing in Seoul and has over 5,000 skilled service personnel at more than 150 bases nationwide.
Home&Service will first focus on apartment complexes in Seoul and officially start the electric vehicle charger installation business from this month. It aims to differentiate itself from other operators by establishing real-time monitoring functions and a 24/7 service system. It also plans to build its own platform early next year.
Ha Gyu-jin, Head of Home&Service Service Support Group, said, "We will do our best to provide optimal charging services to Seoul citizens through the communication infrastructure installation and operation capabilities accumulated together with SK Broadband, which has ranked first in customer satisfaction for 11 consecutive years," adding, "We will take the lead in SK Group's eco-friendly ESG management by contributing to the expansion of the electric vehicle ecosystem."
