[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 7th that a Korean native cattle (Hanwoo) cow, implanted with an OPU (Ovum Pick-Up) fertilized embryo, gave birth to twin calves on the morning of the 5th.
Mr. Kim Seong-yeol (66 years old), residing in Yongsan-myeon, Jangheung-gun, has actively participated in embryo implantation for Hanwoo improvement since last year and was fortunate to have twin calves this year.
This is the result of his efforts to manage the Hanwoo’s feeding by always keeping the barn floor dry for clean farm management and feeding high-quality hay and mineral block supplements.
The calves born this time weighed 20 kg and 22 kg at birth for the female and male respectively, which are small, but the fact that twin calves were born through embryo implantation is significant.
Meanwhile, Jangheung-gun has been promoting an embryo implantation project using eggs from over 150 high-performance cows and excellent semen annually since last year, producing about 60 pedigree calves this year.
This embryo implantation project, carried out with technical cooperation from Researcher Yoo Dae-jung of the Embryo Implantation Team at the Jeollanam-do Livestock Research Institute, is expected to take a step forward in improving the future Hanwoo industry in Jangheung-gun.
