[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Polaris Works, a company specializing in image sensor packaging, announced on the 6th that it has signed a contract worth approximately 1.2 billion KRW with PixelPlus, a company specializing in image sensor design, for the automotive high-reliability package ‘NeoPAC® Encap’.
The contract amount corresponds to 15.33% of recent sales. The contract period is until March 27, 2022.
Polaris Works and PixelPlus have agreed to proceed with additional development for HD (1280x720) and FHD (1920x1080) grade sensors following the start of mass production of automotive VGA (688x528) sensors. They plan to jointly expand their presence in the autonomous vehicle sensor market, including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).
A Polaris Works representative stated, “The automotive image sensor market has higher added value compared to mobile products, and demand is continuously increasing. Our company completed negotiations with foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) companies regarding wafer supply and is ready for mass production even before the semiconductor supply shortage for vehicles, so we can respond stably to the increasing demand for automotive image sensors.”
He added, “We have completed reliability certification and mass production preparation for automotive image sensors, which are experiencing a global supply shortage, giving us a unique competitive edge over other companies. Due to demand exceeding the expected order volume earlier this year, additional orders are anticipated, and the proportion of the automotive image sensor business is expected to gradually increase.”
