[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Lotte Chilsung Beverage announced on the 6th that it will engage in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by launching the 'Re:Green Resource Circulation Campaign,' which directly collects used Icis bottled water PET bottles from its clients and transforms them into upcycled products such as eco-bags and uniforms.
The 'Re:Green Resource Circulation Campaign' aims to reduce the use of petroleum-based plastics and recycle waste plastics to build a sustainable resource circulation economy.
Since July, Lotte Chilsung Beverage has been conducting the campaign in partnership with 11 client locations in Seoul, including Songchugamagol and Kodachaya (4 stores of Songchugamagol, 3 stores of Kodachaya, Hwasarang Hwaro Grill Songpa Branch, Dongdal Restaurant Gangnam Main Branch, etc.).
The campaign supports these clients with collection bins exclusively for transparent PET bottles, and Lotte Chilsung Beverage delivery personnel collect the empty PET bottles directly from consumers while delivering new beverages. The collected empty PET bottles are sorted and compressed by the waste plastic collection and sorting company 'Boeunsuji,' selecting only transparent PET bottles used as high-quality recycled raw materials. These are then processed into flakes (crushed plastic pieces) by flake production companies, which serve as raw materials for upcycled products.
Using recycled raw materials, Lotte Chilsung Beverage plans to offer eco-bag goods and aprons as promotional items for clients. In October, they will collaborate with the outdoor brand 'Black Yak' to produce upcycled uniforms to be distributed to sales staff, showcasing various resource circulation goods. Moving forward, they intend to expand the collection of empty PET bottles to clients in the metropolitan area and promote the 'PET Bottle Collection Request Service' targeting subscribers of the bottled water home service on the official online mall 'Chilsung Mall,' thereby increasing the scale of PET bottle collection.
A Lotte Chilsung Beverage official stated, "The Re:Green Resource Circulation Campaign is part of management activities that prioritize the environment as the highest value and a sincere practice of eco-friendliness. We will continue to lead eco-friendly initiatives, such as the domestic first launch of Icis label-free bottled water and the introduction of rPET made from plastic by-products."
