[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, a leading presidential candidate within the Democratic Party of Korea and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, promised to show through action rather than words that ending the 'barbaric history' that brings despair to young people will be the starting point of MZ policies.
The MZ generation is a term combining the Millennial (M) generation from the 1980s to the early 2000s and Generation Z.
On the 6th, Lee posted on Facebook titled "Ending the Barbaric History is the MZ Policy," stating, "After finishing the (Chungcheong region Democratic Party) tour primary schedule, I binge-watched six episodes of the drama 'DP' recommended by many. Although it is set just a few years ago, it was no different from what I experienced daily in the factory decades ago," reflecting on the drama.
He added, "A military that must maintain discipline through harsh treatment, as shown in the drama, cannot be called a strong army," emphasizing, "Ending the barbaric history that causes despair among young people is the MZ policy I intend to pursue."
Furthermore, he promised, "Before young people destroy themselves thinking 'I have to do something,' the state will step in. I will definitely change the military that forces subjugation to humiliation and injustice, and a society that does not respect citizens in uniform."
He also said, "I am sorry to the youth," adding, "I will show through one action rather than a hundred words, and only then will I be able to stand proudly before the youth."
The drama DP centers on the story of military deserter pursuit team (D.P.) members Junho and Hoyul, who chase various individuals with different stories and face realities previously unknown. It began airing on Netflix from the 27th of last month.
