The Tokyo Paralympics, which opened on August 24 last month, concluded with the closing ceremony held at 8 p.m. on the 5th at the National Stadium (Olympic Stadium) in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan.

Originally scheduled to take place last year, this Paralympics was postponed by one year along with the Olympics due to the global impact of COVID-19.

The events were held without spectators, but over 4,400 athletes from 163 countries, including the Refugee Team, showed their fighting spirit.

The theme of the closing ceremony was "Harmonious Cacophony," presenting the concept of "A City Where Differences Shine."

The organizing committee, which emphasized diversity, stated, "What initially appears as cacophony is actually the birth of a new harmony. Differences do not mean conflict but signify a leap toward a new future."

Like the opening ceremony, the event was held without an audience, with Crown Prince Fumihito Akishino and Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), in attendance.

Meanwhile, South Korea, which dispatched a delegation of 159 members (86 athletes and 73 officials) to compete in 14 sports at this Games, ranked 41st overall with 2 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 12 bronze medals.

China took first place overall (96 gold, 60 silver, 51 bronze), and the host country Japan ranked 11th (13 gold, 15 silver, 23 bronze).
