[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] President Moon Jae-in stated through a social networking service (SNS) message on the 5th regarding the closing of the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, "The number and color of medals do not matter. Participation in the Paralympics itself is already a great victory."
President Moon said, "We achieved good results in table tennis, judo, shooting, taekwondo, boccia, and badminton. Including the two silver medals won today in the men's badminton event, South Korean athletes have gifted the people a total of 24 medals," adding these remarks.
President Moon conveyed, "Our athletes who competed at the end of summer are returning with good results along with autumn. I deeply thank the athletes who fully demonstrated their honed abilities and challenged fiercely, the coaching staff and families who guided them with one heart, and the people who did not spare their support and encouragement."
President Moon said, "Although the Paralympics were held under difficult conditions, our athletes who showed splendid performance are truly admirable."
In particular, President Moon emphasized, "The wholehearted sprint of track and field athlete Jeon Min-jae, and the fighting spirit of marathon runner Yoo Byung-hoon who completed the race through the rain, received unreserved applause from the people. Table tennis players Joo Young-dae and Kim Hyun-wook held the Taegeukgi together after the finals. The fighting spirit of wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis players will also be unforgettable. We are all medalists and winners."
