[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The Inspection Department of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office has launched a full-scale investigation to uncover the truth behind the 'accusation solicitation suspicion' involving former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol.
According to the legal community on the 3rd, the Inspection Division 3 of the Inspection Department of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office secured and is reviewing the computers used by Son Jun-sung, the Human Rights Protection Officer at Daegu High Prosecutors' Office (then the Investigation Information Policy Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office). The Supreme Prosecutors' Office is reportedly checking whether the problematic accusation documents are stored on these computers. If necessary, they are also expected to directly investigate Prosecutor Son and request access to his mobile phone or laptop.
Prosecutor Son is suspected of having solicited accusations by delivering accusation documents twice to the opposition party before the general election last April, targeting ruling party politicians and journalists.
Earlier, the online media outlet 'Newsbus' reported that last April, during former Prosecutor General Yoon's tenure, Prosecutor Son delivered accusation documents containing the names of Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, and Choi Kang-wook and Hwang Hee-seok, then candidates for proportional representation of the Open Democratic Party, to Kim Woong, a candidate for the Future United Party (now People Power Party) for the National Assembly. In relation to this, former Prosecutor General Yoon denied the allegations in a meeting with reporters on the same day.
