Seocho District Council 'Seocho Future Policy Research Group' Holds Kick-off Meeting for Study on Strengthening Policy Support Functions for Council Members

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Seocho Future Policy Research Group, a council member research organization of the Seocho District Council (Chairman Ko Gwang-min), held a kickoff meeting on the "Study on Strengthening the Policy Support Function of Seocho District Council Members" on the 2nd at the Seocho District Council's 1st Committee Room.

The kickoff meeting was attended by Chairman Ko Gwang-min, Chairperson Kim An-sook, Council Members Jang Ok-jun, Lee Hyun-sook, Oh Se-cheol, Kim Ik-tae, Jeon Kyung-hee, and Park Ji-hyo.

Starting with the opening remarks by Chairman Ko Gwang-min, the Korea Applied Statistics Research Institute, which was commissioned for the study, presented the kickoff report, followed by discussions among the participating council members.

The study on strengthening the policy support function of council members aims to analyze the current status of council members' legislative activities and the support provided by the council secretariat, and to examine cases from other local governments. It seeks to analyze current policies from various perspectives regarding the unique functions of local councils, such as legislation, budget and settlement review, and administrative audits, and to identify improvement tasks.

Through this, the council plans to derive practical results that can be applied to actual policies and promote legislative activities that are more beneficial to the residents.

Chairman Ko Gwang-min of the Seocho Future Policy Research Group said, "Over the past 30 years since the revival of local autonomy, local councils have developed their capabilities by carrying out various legislative activities as representative bodies of residents. However, with rising expectations from residents and the increasing roles of local governments, it is necessary to deeply consider not just the simple execution of authority and responsibilities but also the improvement of residents' quality of life and to present new directions."

He added, "Through this research project, we will enhance the policy capabilities and expertise of council members, identify practical improvement tasks, and create changes that residents can feel."

Meanwhile, on May 11, the Seocho Future Policy Research Group signed a business agreement to install safe walkways on residential side streets, and is currently conducting the "Seocho-type Safe Walking Path Road Environment Improvement Project" and the "Side Street Traffic and Pedestrian Survey Project" to secure pedestrian rights on Seocho-type safe walking paths.
