Allegations of Prosecutor General Commissioned Prosecution of Ruling Party Politicians Spark Controversy... "Must Resign if Confirmed" Demands
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon commented on former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, a presidential pre-candidate of the People Power Party, who is suspected of the so-called 'accusation solicitation' scandal, saying, "If involvement is confirmed, he should naturally resign," but also pointed out that "(the suspicion of Yoon's accusation solicitation) lacks plausibility."
On the afternoon of the 2nd, former professor Jin appeared on CBS Radio's 'Hanpan Seungbu' and spoke about the widely spreading suspicion of Yoon's accusation solicitation.
Earlier, the online media Newsbus reported on the 2nd that it was confirmed that last year, while Yoon was serving as Prosecutor General, he solicited the United Future Party (now People Power Party) to accuse ruling party politicians and journalists ahead of the April 15 general election.
Newsbus revealed that Son Jun-sung, then the Investigation Information Policy Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and a close aide of Yoon (currently Human Rights Protection Officer at Daegu High Prosecutors' Office), delivered accusation documents concerning a total of 11 people?including Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation; Choi Kang-wook and Hwang Hee-seok, then proportional representation candidates of the Open Democratic Party; seven media personnel; and unnamed individuals?to Kim Woong, a candidate for the United Future Party (now People Power Party) and current member of the National Assembly. Kim then passed these on to the party.
Regarding this, former professor Jin said, "Son Jun-sung has not properly explained (the accusation solicitation suspicion involving Yoon). Judging by this, the report seems to be true," but added, "However, in my view, for Yoon Seok-yeol to solicit accusations and go this far to interfere in the general election is like hitting into a double play."
Former professor Jin also explained, "It seems to be true that Son Jun-sung handed over the documents, but the plausibility that Yoon asked him to file accusations after receiving them seems very low."
Meanwhile, Son Jun-sung, then the Investigation Information Policy Officer at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, who was reported to have delivered the accusation documents, denied the allegations through Newsbus on the 2nd, calling them "absurd" and stating, "I have no knowledge of this and nothing to explain."
