Sales of 10,349 Eco-Friendly Vehicles Including HEVs and EVs
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Kia announced on the 1st that it sold 217,024 units in August. This is a 0.1% increase compared to the same month last year.
In the domestic market, sales increased by 6.6% to 41,003 units. The best-selling vehicle was the Sportage, which saw a 346.4% increase compared to the previous year, with 6,571 units sold thanks to the new model effect. The 5th generation Sportage, launched in July, sold 6,549 units.
Passenger car models sold a total of 13,838 units, including 4,368 units of the K5, 3,170 units of the K8, 1,829 units of the K3, and 1,814 units of the Ray. Recreational vehicles (RVs) sold a total of 23,355 units, including 5,611 units of the Carnival, 3,974 units of the Sorento, and 2,724 units of the Seltos.
In the eco-friendly vehicle segment, the dedicated electric vehicle EV6, launched last month, sold 1,910 units, contributing to a total of 10,349 units sold, marking the first time monthly domestic sales exceeded 10,000 units.
In overseas markets, sales decreased by 1.4% to 176,201 units due to semiconductor supply disruptions and other factors. By model, the Sportage became the top-selling model overseas with 25,817 units sold, followed by the Seltos (17,837 units) and the Rio (17,769 units).
A Kia official stated, "Although management uncertainty continues due to the resurgence of COVID-19, we will strengthen sales momentum by leading with recently launched competitive new models such as the EV6, K8, and 5th generation Sportage."
