Recycling of Collected Waste PET Bottles in Gwangyang Bay Area, Promoting Local Community Resource Circulation
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyosung TNC is supplying ‘Regen,’ made from waste PET bottles from the Gwangyang Bay area, to local companies and businesses to establish a resource circulation system within the community.
On the 31st, Hyosung TNC announced that it signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for the ‘Gwangyang Bay Area Resource Circulation Project’ together with POSCO and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority. This MOU was established to build a resource circulation system that promotes sustainable consumption and production by recycling existing discarded resources.
POSCO collects waste PET bottles within the Gwangyang Steelworks, and Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority collects waste PET bottles from the port area. Hyosung TNC produces recycled fiber ‘Regen’ from the collected waste PET bottles. Regen is a fiber made by Hyosung TNC using 100% recycled plastic with environmental consideration and has recently been receiving love calls from many fashion brands.
The Regen produced this time will be used to manufacture essential products such as work uniforms and safety vests for POSCO Gwangyang Steelworks. It will also be produced as various goods through social enterprises within the region.
Meanwhile, Hyosung TNC recently signed an MOU with Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority to produce ‘Mipan Regen Ocean,’ a recycled nylon fiber made from recycled fishing nets. As an eco-friendly company, it is leading efforts to protect the marine environment by circulating waste fishing nets and waste PET bottles.
