[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Korea Post under the Ministry of Science and ICT will issue three new designs of regular stamps priced at 430 won, 520 won, and 2,530 won on the 1st, following a 50 won increase in postage fees.
The 430 won stamp for standard mail features the Taegeuk pattern and Hunminjeongeum, symbols of the Republic of Korea. King Sejong completed the characters suitable for representing the Korean language in 1443 and named them Hunminjeongeum, meaning "the correct sounds to teach the people." The explanatory book of Hunminjeongeum, called Haerye, was promulgated in 1446, and the stamp includes a part of Yongjarye, which shows examples of word notation.
The 520 won stamp for non-standard mail features the Mugunghwa, the national flower of Korea. The 2,530 won stamp for registered mail depicts the Goryeo Dynasty’s celadon gourd-shaped ewer and tray with a twisted floral pattern, designated as Treasure No. 1930. Regular stamps can be purchased at nearby post offices.
