[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] An incident occurred in which a driver who hit a child jaywalking in a school zone demanded 8 million won in compensation from the child's parents.

The YouTube channel 'Han Moon-cheol TV' posted a video titled "Accident with a child suddenly running out from the left building while driving slowly in a school zone" on the 29th.

According to informant Mr. A, the accident happened on May 27 in a school zone in Daegu. At the time, Mr. A was driving slowly around the school zone at about 20 km/h but failed to notice a child suddenly running out from a snack bar on the left to get into a Taekwondo academy vehicle and hit the child with the car.

The child appeared to have no serious injuries and quickly got up. Mr. A said, "Since the child was hurt anyway, I was worried and contacted the child's mother and handled the insurance," adding, "There was no further communication, so I thought it was resolved well."

However, a few months later, while talking with an insurance company employee about renewing the insurance, Mr. A heard that the child's father was demanding a settlement of 8 million won. It was also reported that the father threatened to file a criminal lawsuit if the compensation was not paid.

Mr. A appealed to lawyer Han Moon-cheol for help, saying, "I am not sure whether I should settle this case or go to trial."

Lawyer Han said, "How can you avoid this? You have to see it to avoid it. If you want to avoid it, you have to stop every time you see the store," adding, "It looks like it will be dismissed or found not guilty."

He explained, "When the case is filed, the police will request the Road Traffic Authority to analyze the vehicle speed at the time of the accident, the distance between the vehicle and the child when the child appeared, and whether it was possible to avoid the accident by emergency braking," adding, "In that case, it could be treated as an unavoidable accident."
