Operation of Hydrogen Refueling Station Safety Monitoring System Begins
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] Starting from the 31st, real-time safety monitoring will be implemented at all hydrogen refueling stations nationwide.
On this day, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Gas Safety Corporation announced the establishment and commencement of operation of the 'Hydrogen Refueling Station Safety Monitoring System.' The monitoring targets all currently operating hydrogen refueling stations (109 stations).
The Hydrogen Refueling Station Safety Monitoring System was promoted as part of strengthening safety management for hydrogen refueling stations, which is included in the 'Comprehensive Hydrogen Safety Management Plan' established by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in December 2019 to enhance hydrogen facility safety management.
This system transmits the operating status of safety devices such as gas leak detectors and core equipment such as compressors at each refueling station to the Korea Gas Safety Corporation’s control room in real time through a dedicated program installed at each station. If an abnormal signal such as safety device activation occurs, a warning alert is immediately sent to the control room screen, and emergency messages are dispatched to the refueling station safety managers and Korea Gas Safety Corporation staff.
An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "This system is operated so that the refueling stations and the Korea Gas Safety Corporation can take immediate necessary actions such as emergency inspections and emergency measures." He added, "With this establishment, hydrogen refueling stations will have a triple safety inspection system, enabling real-time monitoring through the monitoring system in addition to the existing daily self-inspections by operators and on-site inspections by the Korea Gas Safety Corporation."
