2 out of 10 Lee Nak-yeon Supporters Say "If Not Final Candidate, Will Support Another Party's Candidate"

15.8% of All Respondents "Will Support Another Party's Candidate if Preferred Candidate Does Not Win"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] In the upcoming presidential election, only about 6 out of 10 respondents said they would support a candidate from the same party even if their preferred candidate is not selected as the final nominee. Notably, among supporters of former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, there is a high likelihood of supporting a candidate from another party if their preferred candidate is not chosen as the final nominee.

According to a poll conducted by TBS Broadcasting through the Korea Society Opinion Institute from the 27th to 28th, surveying 1,015 adults aged 18 and over, 63.6% responded that they would support the final candidate from the same party even if their preferred candidate is not selected, while 15.8% said they would support the final candidate from another party.

What draws attention is that among those who responded that they support former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, 79.6% said they would support the People Power Party candidate even if someone other than Yoon becomes the final nominee. This indicates that Yoon’s supporters are likely to support the People Power Party’s final candidate regardless of whether Yoon himself is the nominee.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party showed a different pattern. Especially among supporters of former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon, only 45.2% said they would support the Democratic candidate if another candidate becomes the final nominee. Meanwhile, 19.7% said they would support a candidate from another party, and 22% said they would not support anyone. Among supporters of Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, 68.6% said they would support the Democratic Party even if another candidate becomes the final nominee.

This poll was conducted 100% via wireless ARS, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 7.0%. For more details, please refer to the Korea Society Opinion Institute or the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
