Request for Testing 9 Types Including Samples from 27 People and Restaurant Ingredients
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Following Seongnam and Goyang in Gyeonggi Province, health authorities have launched an epidemiological investigation after customers who ate at a gimbap restaurant in Paju showed collective food poisoning symptoms.
According to Paju City on the 27th, 27 residents who either dined at or ordered delivery from a gimbap restaurant in Dongpae-dong between the 19th and 22nd experienced food poisoning symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
The city collected specimens from the 27 individuals who ate at the restaurant between the 23rd and 26th, and also gathered nine types of ingredients from the restaurant to send to the Northern Branch of the Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment for testing.
The test results are expected around the 30th, and the restaurant has been closed until the 30th.
Earlier, from the 29th of last month to the 2nd of this month, 276 people who purchased gimbap from two specialty gimbap restaurants in Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, showed food poisoning symptoms, with about 40 hospitalized for treatment.
Salmonella bacteria were detected in specimens from 18 of these patients.
In Goyang City, a woman in her 20s who used a gimbap restaurant in Deogyang-gu on the afternoon of the 23rd showed food poisoning symptoms and developed high fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain from the night of the following day. She passed away on the 25th while receiving hospital treatment.
Twenty-nine other customers who used the same restaurant showed similar symptoms, prompting health authorities to conduct an epidemiological investigation.
