Charlie Bell, Senior Vice President of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Moves to MS
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Charlie Bell, Senior Vice President and a key figure at Amazon Web Services (AWS), is reportedly set to move to competitor Microsoft (MS), Bloomberg reported on the 26th (local time).
Bloomberg cited a source familiar with the matter to reveal this. However, it is not yet known when Bell will join MS or what role he will take on at MS.
Industry insiders interpret this move as a strategic step to increase MS Azure's market share while AWS currently holds a dominant position in the cloud services market. According to market research firm Statista, AWS holds 31% of the cloud market share, MS Azure 19%, and Google Cloud 7%.
Bell is considered one of the core figures who helped grow AWS, having worked at Amazon for a total of 23 years, including 15 years at AWS. As Senior Vice President at AWS, he was responsible for pricing, software development, service operations, and finance. When Jeff Bezos stepped down, Andy Jassy, AWS CEO, succeeded him as Amazon CEO, and Bell was mentioned as a potential successor to Andy Jassy.
Meanwhile, Amazon has previously filed lawsuits against employees who moved to competing companies. Amazon has not issued any response regarding Bell's move. MS has also not made any official statement.
