[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] A bill to reduce the authority of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, which has acted as the 'kingmaker' of standing committees, passed the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 24th.
On that day, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee processed the amendment to the National Assembly Act in a plenary session. The amendment limits the committee's bill review authority to only systematic and literal examination and reduces the review period from 120 days to 60 days.
Earlier, the floor leaders of the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party agreed on the distribution of standing committee chairpersons and passed this amendment to the National Assembly Act in the standing committee subcommittee. The Justice Party and the Open Democratic Party opposed the amendment during the Steering Committee review, arguing that it was a regression from the original direction of reforming the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, but with its passage in the Legislation and Judiciary Committee plenary session on this day, it is expected to be approved at the National Assembly plenary session on the 25th.
