[Asia Economy Reporter Kim So-young] Kim Woong, spokesperson for former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, strongly criticized rumors that former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's camp is considering an emergency committee (비상대책위원회, Bidae-wi) system, calling it "something like a coup d'?tat."
On the 24th, Kim said on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show,' "There is a saying that 'there are no secrets in Yeouido.' There are countless reporters who say they heard about the emergency committee from actual camp officials," expressing this view.
Earlier, on the 20th, Sunday Newspaper reported that former Prosecutor General Yoon's camp was planning a People Power Party 'emergency committee card.'
In response, former Prosecutor General Yoon's camp immediately denied the claim. On the 22nd, Yoon dismissed it as "an absurd and ridiculous story that makes no sense" at a National Assembly press conference. On the 23rd, Kim Byung-min, spokesperson for Yoon's camp, rebutted, saying, "The report that an emergency committee is being considered is an absurd fake news."
Regarding this, Kim Woong pointed out, "Documents like the Sip-sang-si or blacklists were always called fake news, absurd and mere gossip, but later all were revealed to be true."
He continued, "An emergency committee, put differently, is similar to saying 'there is a president, but we will create something like an emergency situation meeting,' and to put it strongly, it is like a coup d'?tat."
He added, "I heard from reporters that '(Yoon's camp) openly talks about the emergency committee.' Are those reporters possessed by ghosts then?" he retorted.
When it was suggested that it might be the opinion of individual camp members, he sharpened his tone, saying, "If individual camp members are spreading such stories, that is an even bigger problem."
