[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gong Byeongcheol, a member of the Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City, held a meeting with the heads of the residents' autonomy committees on the 24th to discuss amendments to the residents' autonomy committee ordinance.

According to the Gwangsan District Council, this meeting was held to gather opinions ahead of partial amendments to the "Ordinance on the Pilot Implementation, Establishment, and Operation of the Gwangsan District Residents' Autonomy Committee."

Chairman Lee Younghun, heads of residents' autonomy committees from seven neighborhoods, and about 10 related officials attended.

The amendment sought to unify and stabilize the residents' autonomy committees by adjusting the term of office for committee executives and members to December 31, considering the standard ordinance prepared by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Foreigners were added to the qualifications for committee members.

The amendment also included provisions for establishing a secretariat for the efficient operation of the residents' autonomy committees and standards for activity expense payments.

Councilor Gong Byeongcheol said, "Through the ordinance amendment reflecting the voices of the chairpersons who are leading the residents' autonomy committee activities, we will strive to enable practical support."

Meanwhile, the partial amendment ordinance to the "Ordinance on the Pilot Implementation, Establishment, and Operation of the Gwangsan District Residents' Autonomy Committee," proposed by Councilor Gong, is scheduled to be reviewed at the 267th extraordinary session starting on the 6th of next month.
