[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) is specially managing landslide-prone areas to minimize damage from the autumn monsoon.
In particular, since mid-August, rain has fallen intermittently, and after the typhoon dissipated, rain cloud bands developed over the West Sea have been brought in, raising the possibility of a large amount of rain falling all at once by the end of this month, which could weaken the ground and cause collapses. To prevent disasters, an emergency duty system will be maintained.
The primary focus of intensive management is on cut slopes and landslide risk areas with a high risk of collapse.
For cut slopes in Gudong that received a steep slope D grade as a collapse risk zone, nonwoven fabric and waterproof sheets are being overlaid, and long-term frequent inspections are conducted to prevent collapse accidents caused by soil runoff.
Management of 11 landslide-prone areas in the district, including the area near the Jejoksan Cloud Bridge where a landslide occurred due to typhoon damage last year, will be intensively carried out until October.
To this end, Nam-gu has classified the 11 landslide-prone areas into three districts: Juwol-Jinwol district, Imam-Yanggwa district, and Bangnim-Songha district, and deployed three mobile patrol teams to conduct monitoring.
A Nam-gu official said, "Since mid-August, rain has fallen intermittently, and with the formation of the autumn monsoon front following the typhoon, the ground is in a state with a high possibility of collapse. Please do not approach facilities such as concrete retaining walls, and if you witness any dangerous situations, report them immediately."
