Jeongeup-si Selected for 'Workplace Sports Team Operation Support Public Contest'

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City, Jeonbuk Province (Mayor Yoo Jinseop) announced on the 24th that it has secured 42 million KRW in national funding after being selected for the ‘2021 Workplace Sports Team Operation Support Public Contest Project.’

Despite the difficulties caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the city demonstrated advanced sports administration and achieved the result of being selected for the ‘Workplace Sports Team Operation Support Public Contest Project.’

This public contest project was conducted in June by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee to foster and revitalize workplace sports teams.

With the selection for this project, the city secured 42 million KRW in national funding, enabling support for the City Hall Workplace Sports Team, the Danpungmiin Ssireum Team, to fully demonstrate their skills.

The secured budget will be used for purchasing training equipment, training camps, and participation costs for various competitions, laying the foundation for achieving excellent results.

In particular, providing support during a time when training is more difficult than usual due to COVID-19 is expected to boost the athletes’ morale and help revitalize local sports and improve training conditions.

A city official stated, “Securing national funding through this public contest project amid the difficulties caused by COVID-19 is expected to greatly contribute to boosting the morale and improving the performance of the Ssireum team athletes. We will continue to spare no effort in various ways to revitalize and improve the operation of workplace sports teams.”

Meanwhile, the City Hall Ssireum Team achieved its best-ever results by consecutively producing champions in two weight classes at the Folk Ssireum Goseong Jangsa Ssireum Competition held last month.
